[6-03] "Standard retouching (ii)"

I now include a "before and after" screenshot: the original image, and my edited version.

So far this is the most obvious way to explain to the client without words how I edited the image, and hopefully I changed it for the better.

I write 4-5 changes in the email itself.

This is helpful, I believe.

The main reason I did not do this in the past because I often used Lightroom in conjunction with Photoshop. Photoshop is easier because I can toggle all the edits instantly.

In the past, I would do 3 rounds of editing:

(1) LR -> (2) PS -> (3) LR (final touches).

Now, I try to do:

(1) LR -> (2) PS.

I will export the TIFF/PSD in Lightroom; though now, I would hesitate to make any significant changes in Lightroom.

This is an improvement. Takeaways:

• Only change an image in PS.
• Do not ad hoc edit in LR.
• Learn the same techniques in Lightroom for Photoshop.
• Store photoshop files separate from raw images

Some basic retouching techniques:

• Frequency separation (extremely useful)
• Add normal/color/hue layers between high and low frequencies
• Paint over stray hairs, rather than clone-stamp
• Use content-aware as often as possible
• Grow images for more crops
• Subject selection is useful
