[5-05] Z6ii (early opinion)

I switched a Z7 (2020) for a Z6ii this week, and gave it a go today.

Like what I anticipated, I do miss (really miss) the 4x5 automatic crop on the z7. God, *** you Nikon, completely gave us the finger by not putting such a simple feature on the z6ii. The z7 is worth it (just for the 4x5 autocrop!). Why? Because actually it fills the screen very nicely when the clients are looking through the images, which is what matters to me (because I can always crop the images later). 2x3 is so awkwardly tall and ungainly.

I felt the Z7 was faster at autofocus (not just marginally, but more than z6ii felt slower). And I thought the controls of the Z6ii lag behind the Z7. And most disappointingly, the voice recording feature for the Z6 is so, so unintuitive. It's actually really lame. You have to press the play button (for the image to get a record), make the recording, you only get one chance, it only holds on file, and I haven't found a way to replace it.

All of this gives me the sense of a bad purchase decision and a desire to leave Nikon altogether, given I probably would do better with a Fujifilm GFX for my headshots and a DSLR for events and a more rigorously built voice recording system.
